Initially, the German automaker intended to assign only even indexes to vehicles with electric power plants, and those that are equipped with an internal combustion engine (including hybrids), respectively, odd ones. But such a system of names will not be used anymore. From now on, the numerical sequence from 1 to 8 will indicate the size of the model and its positioning in the line.

Back in 2023, Audi announced that she would clearly divide electric cars and models with internal combustion engines – one should get even numbers, the others are odd. So the Audi A4 was renamed A5, and the Audi A6 in A7. It was assumed that this would facilitate the identification of batteries for buyers, but it turned out exactly the opposite: dealers and clients said that such a logic of names only confuses them.

Audi without four rings: a new brand Audi Audi is represented in China, the Q8 E-Tron resigns and closes the factory in Brussels, a completely new Audi Q5 is represented: everything has changed

The Audi leadership adopted feedback and decided to return to the system that used before – the cars would receive numbers from 1 to 8, increasing from the “youngest” model to the flagship. At the same time, the company will not return the previous names A4 and A5, but for A6 and A7, changes are coming: models with the ICE will return the Audi A6 name with a TFSI mark for gasoline and TDI for diesel modifications, and electric cars will complement the E-Tron prefix.

In a release dedicated to the new approach to the names of models, Audi at the same time declassified the date of the global premiere of the fuel version of A6 – it will debut on March 4, 2025.

We will not wait for us: new cars are not for us
