Auto expert “Behind the wheel” assessed the dynamics and controllability of the all-wheel drive Omoda C7

The crossover’s robotic gearbox behaves decently: in city traffic jams there are no jerks, shifts occur smoothly. The available Eco, Normal and Sport modes respond differently to pressing the gas pedal, but the differences are not drastic, said Konstantin Vasiliev, an auto expert at Za Rulem magazine.

The expert noted the efficiency: in the combined cycle, fuel consumption was 9.5 liters per 100 km. At the same time, the engine is designed for AI-92 gasoline, which is a significant advantage from a cost point of view.

“The suspension of the Omoda C7 is a classic McPherson strut at the front and a multi-link at the rear. No adaptive dampers. But Chery engineers did a great job on the settings for Russia. It is energy-intensive: it swallows speed bumps without breaking, there is no shaking on the comb, and a pleasant roll appears on the primer, which does not cause discomfort. It filters seams and cracks of asphalt perfectly. In terms of comfort, the suspension is closer to the “French” than to the elastic “Koreans,” Vasiliev said.

The expert also commented on the shortcomings of the popular crossover. According to him, the steering in the zero zone is not sharp, which may not appeal to fans of active driving. However, in general, the car behaves predictably, and roll in corners remains moderate. Sound insulation deserves special attention: the front windows are laminated, as in business class models. Silence is maintained on the highway, the engine does not overstrain. The ground clearance is 176 mm – this is enough for parking at the curb and driving on snowy tracks, although the car cannot be called a full-fledged SUV. A plastic body kit along the lower part of the body protects the paintwork from gravel and dirt.

The crossover is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo engine producing 150 hp. and a torque of 275 Nm, paired with a 7-speed preselective gearbox with a “wet” clutch. The passport acceleration to 100 km/h takes 10.5 seconds. The start is smooth, but after 30 km/h the speed gain becomes confident. In urban conditions, the power reserve is quite sufficient, while for overtaking on the highway the driver will need to calculate the maneuver in advance.
