Auto expert Zinoviev criticized the Mitsubishi Outlander for its problematic variator and blistering paint

Despite the proven reliability, the model produced from 2015 to 2022 revealed a number of systemic problems that owners of used cars may encounter.

The most common and annoying problem, according to “Behind the Wheel” expert Sergei Zinoviev, was the variator. For about a tenth of cars, overhaul or replacement of the unit is required already in the range of 100-150 thousand kilometers. Repairs cost about 200 thousand rubles.

The unit, which is a clone of Nissan’s Jatco JF016E, can reach 300 thousand, but this requires ideal maintenance and a minimum of driving in cold weather, heat and around the city with frequent acceleration.

The second most common problem was the stabilizer bushings. Some people have to change them every 15-20 thousand kilometers, for others they last up to 100 thousand. Much depends on the quality of the roads and driving style.

Owners also complain about the front strut boots, which wear out ahead of time, and the windshield, especially with heating. According to car enthusiasts, it cracks from any pebble, and some have replaced it two or three times.

Among the troubles, but not so widespread: a battery that quickly discharges in winter, a failing starter and weak stabilizer links. Other breakdowns are rare and were often fixed under warranty.

A separate pain for the owners is the weak paintwork. Chips and scratches appear easily; on some cars, paint on the roof has been observed to bulge. Corrosion also happens, but not on the body, but from the bottom.
