The model with the A7 index is a real aftermarket legend. Huge trunk, spacious interior, good dynamics. Sounds like the perfect plan. But only until you encounter real breakdowns, which were described by the expert of the magazine “Behind the wheel” Sergei Zinoviev.
According to Zinoviev, the absolute leader of the anti-rating is a preselective robot. Moreover, both versions suffer: the younger DQ200 and the stronger DQ250 with wet clutches. The clutch assembly together with the dual-mass flywheel can fail after 40 thousand kilometers. Or, if you’re lucky, 150 thousand will last. A lottery in which the stakes are high.
The Aisin hydraulic automatic lasts longer, but it doesn’t like sudden starts. The second place in “popularity” is occupied by the 1.8 engine. At low mileage, the thermostat module and water pump fail on this engine. The turbine actuator and ignition coils were also installed.
Versions 1.4 and 1.6 are considered more reliable, although their pump may leak. There is no need to be afraid of oil burns on turbo engines up to 100 thousand – the manufacturer has overcome the problem.
Next on the list are the air conditioning compressor, which breaks unexpectedly, the radiator, which begins to leak for no apparent reason, the gear selector knob, which peels off like cheap plastic, the steering rack, the gas tank flap drive, which does not open at the most inopportune moment.
Less common are souring of the rear calipers and failure of the tailgate drive button. In the interior, the central armrest loses its “stability” over the years. In addition, owners often complain about the harsh suspension, poor sound insulation and easily soiled plastic.
Skoda Octavia is a comfortable and solid car. But if you’re looking at a car with a 1.8 engine and a robot, get ready for the lottery. The most reliable options are an aspirated 1.6 paired with a hydraulic automatic or manual transmission. They get sick less often. All other weaknesses can be overcome – there are not many sores, Zinoviev noted.
