Autoimport of new and used cars in July turned out to be very contrasting

The import of new cars to Russia in July 2025 demonstrated a sharp decrease compared to the same period last year. According to the head of the Avtostat analytical agency Sergey Tselikov, the import volume of import was reduced by 65% in annual terms, amounting to only 28.3 thousand units.

Despite this, the fall relative to July 2024, the import of new cars showed a low growth compared to the previous month, increasing by 10%. However, the general dynamics for new cars remains deeply negative.

In parallel with a reduction in the import of new cars, the market for used cars in July set a local record. 47.3 thousand passing cars were imported into the country. As the expert specified, the larger volume of used cars was imported only once – in July 2023 (51.3 thousand units), which was associated with hype demand before the introduction of increased Utilsbor bets. After that peak, the volume of import of used cars was consistently declined until they reached the new maximum in July 2025.

The analyst also allocated key trends in imports. The main supplier of new cars to Russia remains China, which accounts for 71% of all import. In the segment of used cars, Japan leads, providing 46% of the supply. At the same time, Sergey Tselikov emphasized the noticeable increase in the import of used machines from South Korea (22%) and China (16%), which indicates the diversification of sources for this market segment.
