“Autostat”: South Koreans prefer national cars

South Korean automakers maintain leadership in the home market, but show sluggish growth, although foreign competitors are increasing their market shares. Experts from the analytical agency Autostat came to these conclusions.

Based on the results of January-February 2026, Kia remained the leader, whose market share is 35% (+0.9%). It is followed by Hyundai (33.5%; -3.1%), so that in total these brands manage to hold 68.5%. Sister brand Genesis came in third (-18%).

The best sales dynamics were Tesla (+341.6%) and SsangYong (+38.4%), the worst were Renault Samsung (-43.3%) and Genesis (-18.0%).

The leaders in the ranking of the most popular models are Kia Sorento (-2.7%), Kia Sportage (-25.2%), and the Hyundai Sonata sedan.
