Autostat: Volga’s success depends on price and marketing, not on the brand

The sales potential of Volga in Russia is estimated at 40-60 thousand cars annually. However, achieving this figure directly depends on the readiness of production facilities, the reliability of supplies of components and investments in marketing – relying solely on brand awareness would be a mistake. The founder of the external press service for the auto business “Mechanika”, Alexander Kovalev, told the analytical agency “Autostat” about this.

“In terms of sales volume, I would separate short and full cycle. Since Volga itself announces the start of sales in the summer of 2026, in calendar 2026 I would consider a realistic volume of 5 – 8 thousand cars, and with a very good launch – up to 10 – 12 thousand. I estimate the full annual potential after reaching a normal rhythm at 18 – 30 thousand cars per year. This is not a “ceiling”, but this is already a good, healthy result for a new brand on the market,” comments Yuri Blinov, Marketing Director of Avilon AG.

According to the expert’s forecast, the share of government purchases and sales to legal entities in Volga’s sales structure will exceed the market average. For comparison: in 2025, corporate customers accounted for only 14% of all sales of new passenger cars in Russia.

The editor-in-chief of Avtodor radio, Igor Morzharetto, suggested that Volga models could have a very interesting fate and could occupy a fair share in their segment. He noted that, although not a single car has been sold yet, the price and level of localization are unknown, the cars already appear on the list of the Ministry of Industry and Trade as approved for use in taxis and, probably, as approved for sale to government agencies. According to Morzharetto, the main thing is to guess the price: it should be slightly lower or at the level of Chinese brands leaving the Russian market. With the support of the government, according to him, everything is fine.
