Avilon listed 5 reasons for paint blistering on the body of a new car

Blistering of the paintwork, if it appears on new cars, is a direct signal that violations were committed at some stage of production. Vadim Strelbitsky, director of the mechanical repair department at Avilon Kia, told Motor magazine about this.

“The main cause of paint blistering on new cars is due to moisture or air getting under the paint layer. This happens if the body was not well prepared before painting: micro-contaminants, condensation or dust remain. Over time, such defects appear in the form of bubbles,” the expert said.

Another reason mentioned by the specialist is related to violations of painting technology in production. These could be errors in the temperature conditions during painting, incorrect drying conditions, non-compliance with the holding time between layers, or a violation of the technology for applying the layers themselves, for example, a layer that is too thick or too thin.

All this ultimately leads to the coating losing its normal adhesion to the metal of the body or to the intermediate primer layer. Damage during transportation and storage can also cause blistering of the paint on a new vehicle.

Even microcracks or chips that cannot be immediately noticed during inspection at the dealer’s site can later make themselves felt. Through these microscopic damages, moisture and dirt begin to get inside the paint. As a result, such invisible defects diverge over time and lead to swelling of the paintwork, Strelbitsky noted.
