AvtoVAZ gathered the first Lada Granta with a Chinese variator

Togliatti portal Avtograd News claims: last week two experienced cars with a stray transmission came off the assembly line. According to insiders, the prototypes of Lada Granta were equipped with a 16-valve 1.6 engine in a conjunction with a variator from the Chinese partner of Wly. The AvtoVAZ press service said that “it does not comment on the dubious sources that are distributed fakes.”

In October 2024, the Vice President of AvtoVAZ Dmitry Kostromin told reporters that the Wly variator is being prepared for Lada Granta, which will replace the “sanctions” 4-speed Jatco machine. However, the top manager agreed that the two-pedal modification would return to the system no earlier than 2026.

AvtoVAZ replied when ISKRA will finally replace Granta in Russia in Lada Vesta sales with a variator, and that’s why Lada ISKRA: “Live” photos of a cheap version on stamps

The Japanese transmission ended six months ago, but the “grants” with a machine gun were very in demand, so the adaptation of the Chinese gearbox looks logical. At the same time, the director of AvtoVAZ grocery programs Oleg Grunenkov emphasized that the variator from Vesta on Grant will not work: the transmission simply will not fit under the hood.

In the range of the Chinese partner Wly there is a whole line of variators. According to unofficial data, AvtoVAZ aimed at foreign transmission, since as the procurement volumes increase, the price of each individual unit is reduced. For example, the new Lada ISKRA will receive a domestic 5-speed “mechanics” only in poor trim levels.
