The auto giant’s vice president for sales and marketing, Dmitry Kostromin, told reporters that there are no plans to stop production in the next seven years. The top manager noted that initially the conversation was about a five-year plan, but now a decision has been made to leave the Lada Granta on the assembly line until at least 2032. Production volumes of the model will depend on demand.

Last summer, the head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, said that Lada Granta would be retired within five years, that is, they planned to get rid of the “state employee” by 2029. However, plans have now changed and resignation is no longer on the agenda. Dmitry Kostromin announced “all kinds of improvements” to the popular model and added that the plant has plans to refine it and equip it with new options.

Lada Granta has been produced since 2011, which means AvtoVAZ plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the model on the assembly line. If the forecast comes true, then the “state employee” will be among the long-livers of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant, and in terms of the duration of the life cycle, Granta will be ahead of the VAZ-2101 and VAZ-2108. Last year, sales exceeded one and a half million units, and it seems that hitting the two million mark is a matter of time.

However, some Lada Granta buyers will probably choose the more modern Iskra: its production will start in March, and sales may begin in late spring or early summer. The production plan implies a monthly production of 11 thousand Lada Iskra cars. At the same time, it is still predicted that the life cycle of Iskra will be relatively short.
