Baza: 3.2 billion rubles per day will begin to be collected from drivers without compulsory motor liability insurance in Russia

In the Russian Federation, a new punishment procedure may come into force in the near future for drivers who have not taken out a compulsory motor liability insurance policy. According to the Baza Telegram channel, after the State Duma adopts the relevant amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, traffic police officers will have the opportunity to fine car owners without insurance automatically, using traffic cameras. The fine will be 800 rubles, and drivers will receive no more than one notification per day.

According to the Russian Union of Auto Insurers, cited by the channel, currently 7 to 10% of drivers do not have a compulsory motor liability insurance policy. With a total number of motorists in the country of about 40 million people, we are talking about approximately 2.8-4 million citizens. RSA notes that not all of them regularly use transport: some cars are idle, and in some families with two cars, only one is used. In this regard, the union expects that after the introduction of the new system, the majority of violators will still prefer to purchase a policy.

Experts and public figures are generally positive about the upcoming changes. Chairman of the All-Russian Society of Motorists Valery Soldunov is confident that the main result will be improved road safety. According to him, having a policy for all road users will allow drivers to be confident that in the event of an accident that was not their fault, they will not have to independently resolve problems with compensation for damage through the courts.

At the same time, the real amounts that the budget will be able to receive from new fines will be significantly lower than the theoretical maximum. As Baza calculated, if all the violators were caught on the same day, daily revenues could reach 3.2 billion rubles. According to experts, real revenues could range from 100 to 320 million rubles per day.
