Car sales in Russia increased by 40% in 2024

In 2024, Russia recorded a significant increase in sales of new vehicles, the total volume of which reached 1,836,029 units, which is 39 percent higher than the previous year. At the same time, domestic production also showed a strong rise, increasing by 28 percent to 829,867 vehicles.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, by the end of 2024, 34 percent more light commercial vehicles were sold in the Russian Federation compared to the previous year (140,292 units). The bus market also showed growth, increasing by 16 percent with a total of 20,567 buses sold during the year. At the same time, the truck sector experienced some decline, with sales volumes down 13 percent to 121,562 units over the 12 months.

The electric vehicle segment deserves special attention, where, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, sales growth was recorded at 31 percent. In total, 19,390 new electric cars were sold during the year. Despite such an impressive increase in the total number of electric vehicles sold, the share of electric cars produced in the Russian Federation did not increase so significantly – from 21 to 22 percent.

In total, domestic car production increased by 28 percent and amounted to 829,867 models produced in Russia.

Earlier it became known that in November 2024, the Russian new car market saw a decline in sales by almost a third. In the last month of autumn, Russians purchased 121.9 thousand passenger cars, which is 29 percent less than in October. This figure was the lowest in nine months of 2024.
