Customers criticizing Tesla from the PRC were obliged to pay huge fines

For the American automaker, it was a habit of suing dissatisfied owners of electric cars, as well as bloggers and media, writes Associated Press. And in most cases, Tesla, supported by the Chinese authorities, wins cases, and dissatisfied consumers not only do not receive compensation, but they themselves must remain.

Over the past few years, Tesla has sued six private customers in China, six bloggers and two media. Of the 14th cases, the company won 11. One was regulated by extrajudicial order, and two more are on appeals.

One of the claims was filed by Zhang Yazhou, the owner of Model 3, who claimed that the brakes of her electric car were refused and she got into an accident. Zhang parked a broken electric car in front of the Tesla dealer center, covering the car with a banner with the inscription “Brake refusal” and standing on it with a megaphone in her hands.

Tesla filed a lawsuit against the slander against Zhang, saying that he had no evidence of the brake malfunction. The company won. Zhang ordered to pay the equivalent of 23 thousand dollars (about two million rubles) and bring public apologies. The defendant refuses to do this, saying that he has every right to criticize the manufacturer.

Tesla opened a “gigatric” on the outskirts of Shanghai in 2019. Thanks to this, the company earned the location of Lee Qian, who then held the post of city secretary of the party. Now Lee is China Prime Minister. Sources from the Chinese media confirm that they are following a secret order not to speak out about Tesla in a negative way.
