According to the new law, drivers can be sent for an extraordinary medical examination. It is necessary to pass such a commission within a period not exceeding three months from the date of receipt of the referral. The reason for this will be diseases identified during visits to regular hospitals and clinics.
“In Russia, from March 1, 2027, changes will come into force according to which a driver’s license can be revoked if a citizen has medical contraindications to driving a vehicle. We are talking about diseases that objectively create an increased risk on the road – severe mental disorders, epilepsy, serious visual impairment and other conditions that can lead to loss of control of the car,” said State Duma deputy Alexander Yakubovsky.
The parliamentarian emphasized: the measure is not punitive, but preventive. Since a car is a source of increased danger, the state must ensure that it is driven by people who can do so safely.
The deputy also noted that the restriction is not of an indefinite nature. If the state of health returns to normal and a positive medical report is received indicating that there are no contraindications, the citizen has the right to regain the right to drive a car.
