Dongfeng is one of the largest and oldest automakers of China. It produces almost all types of road transport – from tractors, buses and military equipment to premium hybrids and “trains”. They belong to the Aeolus conventional line, uniting a model with traditional ICE. Crossovers are made on the same platform, in the development of which the PSA engineers took part, and are equipped with the same power plant, which was also working on Honda specialists. Being similar in aggregate plan, two models differ mainly by design and dimensions. Huge is larger than mage – in accordance with its name, which in English means “big.” And in terms of Mage aesthetics, more aggressive and futuristic, while Huge has a softer, calm appearance.

The proprietary presentation contains many “space” references regarding the design of the younger Mage and “natural” metaphors regarding the appearance of the senior Huge. But let’s lower the lyrics-everyone will see something in design. But the interiors were remembered. The Mage has a low front panel in combination with the location and shape of the ducts reminds of … Lamborghini! Otherwise, everything is now accepted: a couple of tablets, a simple ornament, an elegant (first week) gloss, not too comfortable minimalism. And with a noticeable eye on Geely – in Mage the same “reverse” glasses of the windows, as well as an interface of an entertainment system with an endless scroll of sections flowing into each other. The salon of a large Huge is made completely different, older – without cunning tablets and with the usual buttons of the windows. By the way, this indicator is declared for both models, despite the difference in the mass of more than 200 kg. It is not surprising that in fact Mage is felt more dynamic.

However, the controllability of an inexpensive front -wheel drive (and these Dunfans are not there) crossovers are unlikely to strongly bother the target audience. These are cars of everyday family format, so in the first place is comfort and practicality. And here Huge wins, which has not only a spacious second row and more convenient, but also a trunk. But noise insulation is about the same – being in the second row that one, that the other car is difficult to communicate with the passengers of the first.

Despite this, against the backdrop of competitors, the car lacks integrity, completeness and debauchery. It is perceived by slightly obsolete, in places awkward, unacceptable. It seems to be formally all the main characteristics, options and technologies are present, but much of this is realized somehow, and the performance of the car is quite budget. Mage has all the same problems, only it looks more fashionable and a little more accessible, equipped with more modern screens and even access from smart hours, which are offered as an accessory. But many functions are ignored and therefore inconvenient in circulation.

Against the backdrop of Mage competitors, just like Huge has a minimum price (only BAIC X55 is cheaper, in respect of which desperate dumping is now being used), a decent indicator of overclocking 0–100 and a fairly large clearance. But these competitors are a dozen, there is something to choose from. And the crossover of the brand not known in the Russian market with a non -optimal combination of consumer qualities will be very difficult to take the market share, being mainly a little cheaper.
