In New York, where the auto show of the same name is taking place, the jury named the overall winner of the World Car of the Year 2026 award. Before that, 98 automotive journalists from 33 countries tested the nominated cars. Experts from the audit bureau KPMG monitored the correctness of the secret voting procedure and vote counting.
The winner of the WCOTY-2026 award was the electric crossover BMW iX3. For the first time in 20 years, BMW was recognized as the best car in the world in 2006: in 2006, the award went to the BMW 3-Series.
The iX3 tried on fresh BMW styling, a dual-engine power plant, the latest technical developments and an advanced battery that provides up to 805 kilometers of range without recharging.
At the same time, the BMW iX3 received the title “Electric Car of the Year”. The Lucid Gravity was chosen as the Luxury Car of the Year, the Nio Firefly as the City Car of the Year, and the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N as the Sports Car of the Year.
The Mazda 6e (EZ-6), an electrified Mazda EZ-6 liftback created by the Chinese-Japanese joint venture Changan Mazda, won the Design of the Year category.
