The head of the technical marketing department of the Takayama oil brand, Alexander Sosnovsky, explained to Rossiyskaya Gazeta how the wording “approved by the manufacturer”, “meets international standards”, “officially approved” and “recommended for” differs.
“Meets standards” is a statement from the manufacturer itself, which is supported by the own research of the company that manufactured the particular product.
In turn, “officially approved” means that the oil has passed a full cycle of tests by an external regulator, and based on the results of the tests, received a license (for example, API).
The “Approved” or “Approval” marking means that the lubricant has passed official tests by the vehicle manufacturer.
But the inscription “recommended for” indicates that the composition must meet the standards of the car brand, but they have not tested it.
