The fastest increase in prices will manifest itself in the segment of original parts for premium segment foreign cars, which were most often delivered through Middle Eastern countries. Later, the rise in price will affect non-original and universal consumables. Tatyana Ovchinnikova, director of the international franchising network of car service centers Fit Service, told Motor magazine about this.
“Today the main factor in price changes is the rise in logistics costs. Freight rates on alternative routes have already doubled, and this is directly included in the final cost of spare parts. Imported goods, including auto parts, may rise in price by 15-30% in the coming months if the crisis drags on,” Ovchinnikova said.
She noted that parallel imports through the UAE and the Strait of Hormuz turned out to be the most vulnerable supply channel. In recent years, this region accounted for up to 40-60% of original premium auto parts. Failures in the operation of these Middle Eastern logistics hubs will inevitably lead to an increase in waiting times for a number of items and an increase in the share of analogues in the market.
Despite rising prices, spare parts are not expected to disappear. The Russian market has diversified supplies: a significant part goes to China and direct Asian routes, which are practically independent of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The shortage will most severely affect body parts, optics, electronic units, as well as units for right-hand drive cars and rare models; logistics for these items were the most complex and lengthy, the expert explained.
It was previously reported that in 2026, car repair prices will rise in three stages.
