Fit Service named three disadvantages of remote car start

If the auto-start alarm is incorrectly configured, the engine runs for a long time with unheated oil, which reduces its service life. Also, frequent engine starts lead to a discharge of the battery, Konstantin Ershov, a trainer at the training center of the international network of car service centers Fit Service, warned motorists.

The specialist explained that when setting up automatic start, the key task of the car owner is to find a balance in the frequency of its operation, in order to ensure comfort on the one hand, and on the other hand, not to harm the resource of the car’s components and assemblies.

“Problems begin when they try to compensate for improper operation with auto-warming and set frequent and long cycles. In this mode, the power unit runs for a long time on cold oil and at low speeds, which is much worse for the resource than a short start and further movement,” Ershov explained.

According to him, if every two hours a car engine starts and runs for 15-20 minutes, it exists in a mode of chronic underheating. This leads to active deposits of carbon deposits on the spark plugs and exhaust system elements. Also, autostart operation in this mode negatively affects the condition of the battery, since the generator at idle speed does not have time to replenish the charge spent on a cold start. As a result, the battery may become discharged.

“Soot deposits more actively on spark plugs and exhaust system elements, and the resource of the cylinder-piston group goes “to nowhere,” the expert warned.

Another danger lies in the incorrect installation of an alarm system with auto-start: twisted wires, incorrect selection of electrical circuits and overloaded standard conductors increase the likelihood of short circuits, Ershov pointed out.
