Organic resins and acids destroy the paintwork of a car in a couple of hours. Konstantin Ershov, a trainer at the training center of the international network of car service centers Fit Service, told Motor magazine about this.
“The buds contain a high concentration of resins, essential oils and organic acids, which heat up under the sun. By softening the top varnish layer of the body, they literally eat into it. If such stains are not removed within several hours, especially at high air temperatures, then areas of damage to the body will remain even after washing the car,” Ershov said.
The interlocutor noted that the result of such a bombing could be very unpleasant – the body would need polishing or partial painting of the part.
According to Ershov, the most vulnerable areas are the hood, roof, and trunk door. On light-colored bodies the marks look like yellowish or brown dots, on dark ones they look like matte spots with a rough surface. The worst thing is that if you try to wipe them off with a dry cloth or brush, the integrity of the paintwork is almost guaranteed to be damaged.
If the buds are already stuck, you need to act immediately, but carefully. The buds are gently washed off with water, then with contactless car shampoo foam. The next step is to apply a resin cleaner to the cooled body. He is given time to soften the stains. Next, the lesions are carefully wiped with soft microfiber without pressure, the expert especially emphasized.
It is absolutely wrong to use household solvents such as acetone, aggressive degreasers, nail polish removers, and abrasive cleaning powders. Such products damage varnish, plastic and rubber seals.
If traces of poplar buds remained on the body for several weeks and had become ingrained, it is better to contact a detailing center. Soft polishing followed by application of a protective layer can restore the coating, Ershov explained.
