A 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra is up for auction at Mecum. Driving this car in the same 1995, the 70-year-old actor won his class at the 24 Hours of Daytona and also took third place in the overall standings. The uniqueness of the lot is that the car has never been washed: it still has the “original” dirt and scuffs left over from the marathon race.
The Roush company, which owned the rare car, decided to part with the pearl of its collection. The Mustang, piloted by the famous actor and passionate race car driver Paul Newman, was sent to the Daytona Beach Motorsports Museum after the finish. The car has never been washed in three decades.
At the time of the race, the film with Newman’s participation, No Fools, had only been released a month ago, and the Paramount studio decided to put his logo on the racing coupe. Newman got behind the wheel of the 750-horsepower Mustang along with Tommy Kendall, Mark Martin and Michael Brockman. The team won the competition in the GTS-1 class, and the 70-year-old actor confirmed his reputation as a serious racer. Two decades earlier, in 1974, he finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 935.
Under the hood of the Mustang for sale is a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 from Roush with a power of 750 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. No stabilization systems or traction control. Before the sale, the original body panels, which were removed after the race, were returned to the body.
Earlier it became known that Porsche would reduce the size of the company.
