Porsche, together with Michelin, has developed a special version of rain tires for 911 GT3 RS. Pilot Sport S 5 models changed the geometry of the frame, revised the composition of the rubber mixture, and also optimized the contact spot. The high silicon content improved the clutch with the wet surface and provided a faster warming up. The operating temperature range is from +5 to +15 ° C, but the tires behave perfectly with higher values.

The Pilot Sport S 5 tread pattern is characterized by the presence of four large longitudinal grooves with a depth of 7.4 millimeters. They play the role of a drainage, reducing the risk of aquaplaning and increasing the threshold, in which the tires begin to lose adhesion to the road. They tested new tires at the Michelin Development Center training ground in Lada, and the circle shown by the 911 GT3 RS shown in them turned out to be 10 seconds less than the usual Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2.
According to Porsche, the Pilot Sport S 5 open a completely new segment. Of course, first of all, they are designed to extend the track-day season when the Pilot Sport Cup 2 begins to take up positions. True, tires are also suitable for daily trips, especially in the climate, which are characterized by frequent rains and cool weather. However, the tests in the Portuguese Portiman showed that the novelty is not afraid and truly summer temperatures above +20 ° C.
