For the first month of 2025, more than 6.7 million cars were sold in the world

Such data are given by the consulting company Globaldata. According to its statistics, in January the world car market increased by 1.9 percent compared to the same month of 2024, up to 6,782,098 cars. Most of all cars are bought in China, although the local market was somewhat sagged relative to January of last year. In second place in terms of sales of cars are the United States, and Western Europe closes the top three.

At the beginning of the year, the Chinese purchased 1,963,464 cars, which is 1.4 percent less than January 2024. Sales of new cars in the United States of America in January amounted to 1,108,924 pieces, and this is 4.5 percent more than a year ago. The markets of Western Europe showed a total result of 1,008,694 a car sold, and this is 3.2 percent less than in January 2024. Well, sales of cars in Eastern Europe at the beginning of the year decreased by 2.9 percent, to 288,524 units.

The Russian car market again rolled back to the fifth place in Europe Geely surpassed Toyota in the popularity of Toyota in China in China.

In South America, 225,619 new cars were sold in a month, and this corresponds to a growth of 22.3 percent compared to January 2024. Among the world’s largest car markets, Japan is also mentioned (372,441 pcs.; +11.9 percent), Canada (111,838 pcs.; +0.2 percent) and South Korea (104,042 pcs.; -9.3 percent).

If we talk about the indicators of 2024, then in general about 88.6 million new cars were sold around the world. This is 2.1 percent more than the result of 2023. More than 25 million sold in China, in the USA almost 16 million, and in Western Europe – more than 13 million.

The title of the world leader in sales in the past year retained Toyota, which, together with her subsidiaries, realized 10.8 million cars around the world. This is not a record: compared with 2023, sales were sank by 3.7 percent, which is also due to a sharp decline in demand in their homeland. In second place is Volkswagen Group, and in the third – Hyundai.
