Ford prepares Fiesta return in partnership with Renault

For the European market, the American automaker is preparing a new generation of compact car on the electric platform of the French automaker. The compact hatchback Ford Fiesta was discontinued and did not receive a direct successor, as part of Ford’s course towards electrification and the production of crossovers.

It was expected that customers who chose the Ford Fiesta would reorient towards the Puma subcompact crossover. But the American automaker is not abandoning plans to revive the Fiesta model on an electric platform.

“Ford has turned to its strategic partnership with Renault Group to develop two affordable electric vehicles for Europe based on the French automaker’s AmpR Small platform. Although official information about the Fiesta EV has not yet been confirmed, according to sources, everything is in full swing,” notes Carscoops.

The Fiesta is expected to get a high-tech infotainment system and most of the electronic equipment will be based on French architecture. Beneath the digital instrument panel and infotainment screen is Renault’s Google-based operating system, with over-the-air updates.

The Renault company itself is already producing a compact electric car, comparable in form factor and dimensions to the Ford Fiesta – this is the revived Renault 5. The length of the “five” is 3922 mm, the wheelbase is 2540 mm. Based on Renault’s 400-volt AmpR-Small architecture, the next Ford Fiesta will be further developed by Ford Europe engineers in terms of comfort and handling.

Earlier it became known that Ford is developing a futuristic pickup truck in the style of the Tesla Cybertruck.
