Production of the new version will begin at a plant in central Ohio. This facility will be the sole global production site for the model, with the company expecting to produce about 100,000 vehicles in the first full year of sales, Carscoops reports.
The revived Element will sit between the HR-V and CR-V and will receive a hybrid powertrain, which should solve the main drawback of the original model – high fuel consumption. The car will retain its recognizable angular design and practical solutions such as washable floors and wear-resistant interior materials.
The new product will be aimed at buyers looking for off-road style and practicality – a segment that is now actively growing thanks to such models as the Ford Bronco Sport, Toyota 4Runner and Hyundai Santa Fe.
The original Honda Element, which debuted in 2003, was aimed at a younger audience but unexpectedly found a loyal following among older adults and outdoor enthusiasts. Sales peaked in the first year of production with 67,478 vehicles in the United States, after which demand gradually declined, and by the time production ceased in 2011, only 11,534 units had been sold.
However, the model remains in demand on the secondary market and retains a high residual value. Honda’s patent filings hinted at a possible return of the Element back in July 2024, and now new information suggests those plans could be on the way in 2029.
