The head of the Electric Car Development Center of the Japanese company, Toshihiro Akiva, told reporters at the CES exhibition that attempts are being made to create a sports car of the famous series. However, electric motors and internal combustion engines have different characteristics, so traditional methods of developing a “driver” car do not work. Honda is committed to making an electric car without sacrificing driving pleasure.
Toshihiro Akiva emphasized that a “charged” electric car should not only be powerful: the perception is influenced by characteristics such as sound, vibration and acceleration. The engineer made it clear that developing a battery-powered Type R is not an easy process. Thus, there are no specifics about Honda’s high-performance electric vehicle yet.

The current Civic Type R will be produced from 2022. This is the only Honda model in Europe without hybrid add-ons. The hot hatch has a petrol 2.0-liter turbo engine (330 hp and 420 Nm) coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. At the same time, the regular Civic has long become a hybrid: such modifications “make money” in most markets. Competitors are already producing electric cars with a sporty character: in Europe there is the Ioniq 5 N and Alpine A290.
Honda may soon announce an alliance with Nissan. To do this, the distressed Japanese company needs to fulfill a number of conditions: draw up a plan to significantly increase profits over a three-year horizon and buy out the entire stake from Renault.
