How many cars are produced by factories in the Kaluga region?

The governor of the region, Vladislav Shapsha, answered this question. In his Telegram channel, he said that by the end of 2024, Kaluga automobile plants produced 13 thousand cars and 2 thousand trucks. “Compared to previous volumes, this is still not much,” Shapsha noted, “but this year we expect a multiple increase in production output in the auto cluster and a significant increase in its share in the region’s industrial production.”

During 2024, several Kaluga automobile plants were restarted. Thus, the former PSMA Rus, which previously belonged to Mitsubishi and Stellantis, returned to work. Before the start of the SVO, they produced Mitsubishi Outlander and Pajero Sport, Peugeot 408 and Citroen C4 sedans from 2017, as well as commercial vehicles Peugeot (Traveller, Expert, Partner), Opel (Combo, Zafira, Vivaro) and Citroen (SpaceTourer, Jumpy, Berlingo ). After the departure of foreign automakers, the assembly plant was transferred to the Automobile Technologies company, which organized the assembly of Citroen C5 Aircross crossovers from Chinese components.

At the end of 2024, the Automobile Technologies plant was prepared for the production of the Haval M6 model, which was previously produced at a plant in the Tula region. In addition, at the beginning of 2025, a Peugeot Partner (B9) “heel” was spotted on the assembly line of the Kaluga plant. Thus, this year the site will produce at least three models.

The Kaluga Automobile Plant received the first vehicle kits for assembling the Haval M6. Russia may resume production of another Peugeot model. The PSMA Rus Kaluga Automobile Plant has a new sign.

The auto cluster in the Kaluga region also includes the former Volkswagen plant, now owned by the AGR group of companies. It was restarted in the summer of 2024 after a shutdown that lasted two and a half years. Chery crossovers are assembled there, although this has not been officially announced. Finally, the former AB Volvo plant (now operating under the AMO guise) produces Kaluga Next trucks, also known as Ural Next.

The capacity of the ex-Volkswagen plant is designed to produce 225 thousand cars per year, and the design capacity of PSMA Rus is 125 thousand cars. The former AB Volvo is capable of producing another 15 thousand.
