How many cars should a dealer sell per year to avoid incurring losses?

Auto expert Oleg Moseev answered this question: he calculated the annual sales of new cars per dealership. In his opinion, in order to be successful, a dealer needs to sell at least 600 cars, while for Lada sellers this figure is higher – 1000 units. Telegram channel «[Автопоток](https://t.me/autopotoknews/10699)”, in turn, writes that sales of less than 300 cars in one DC per year are unprofitable, this is the opinion formed in auto retail.

According to Moseev’s calculations, on average 1,318 cars were sold at Lada car dealerships in 2024. Among the “Chinese”, Haval (863 units), Geely (709 units) and Chery (687 units) crossed the 600-car mark. Changan fell slightly short of this mark, with annual sales per showroom amounting to 527 units.

Hundreds of thousands of unsold cars have accumulated in warehouses in Russia. Russian dealers have put forward five demands for car factories. Cars of outdated brands have accumulated in the warehouses of Russian dealers.

Each premium car dealership Exeed (owned by Chery) and Tank (Great Wall) sold 469 and 354 cars in 2024, respectively. Annual sales of Omoda per dealer amounted to 277 units, and Moskvich – 254 units. At the same time, Moseev notes that he did not take into account the presence of several brands in one DC, as well as brands that have been represented on the Russian market for less than 10 months.

From the infographic published in the telegram channel of the auto expert, it follows that the least number of cars were sold by dealers Ora (9 units per showroom per year), Skywell (10 units) and Forthing (12 units).

In December, information appeared that Skywell was gradually reducing its dealer network in Russia after two years of presence on the market. It has been reported that Skywell vehicles have run out of stock in St. Petersburg, and dealers do not know when new deliveries are planned or whether there will be any. In other cities where the brand is represented, the situation is little better: only a few cars of 2022 and 2023 are available.
