The adapter of the North American standard NACS (North American Charging Standard) will give owners of Hyundai electric cars access to the Tesla Supercharger charging station network. Already at the beginning of next year, adapters will be available to those who buy or rent Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N, Ioniq 6, Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric. The Genesis brand announced a similar step, but so far without details.

Those who purchase an electric car (or rent it) before December 31, 2025 will be able to take part in the promotion. You must submit the appropriate application in the MyHyundai mobile application or contact your dealership starting in the first quarter of next year, and the company will send the adapter free of charge. This will give electric car owners access to more than 20 thousand Tesla Superchargers.

Not included in the list of eligible models is the 2025 Ioniq 5, which already comes with a NACS charging port from the factory. A similar port is promised for the upcoming Ioniq 9.

Today, NACS is the most popular charging standard for electric vehicles in the United States. This protocol was developed by Tesla for the Supercharger network, and the name has become a household name for fast charging in general. Ford and Rivian, General Motors and Stellantis, and now Hyundai are already switching to NACS connectors.

With the massive spread of NACS, connectors of other standards may remain in the past – the European CCS and the outdated Japanese CHAdeMO. In addition to the listed standards, there is also Chinese GB/T. In particular, the Russian Atom electric car, which is expected to go on sale in 2025, is equipped with a port of this standard.
