In China, the owner of a Peugeot 508 complained about the total lack of spare parts

The owner of a sedan produced by a joint venture between a French company and China’s Dongfeng was unable to repair the car after a rear-end collision. It turned out that the original body parts had been discontinued and it was simply impossible to repair the car as required by law. The Chinese publication IT Home spoke about the situation in which a resident of Guangzhou found himself.

The car was involved in an accident in January 2025, but is still in service – the plant simply stopped supplying the necessary parts. We are talking about three elements: the bumper amplifier bracket and two sidewalls. Without them, the car cannot be considered safe, so the owner refuses to take it away from repair.

There are no original spare parts either at the dealer or in the manufacturer’s warehouses: the supplier closed and the plant stopped supplying. At the same time, dealers offer non-original parts, but their quality raises serious doubts among the owner – according to him, they differ in thickness, rigidity and strength, which creates risks during operation.

According to Chinese law, the automaker is required to ensure the supply of spare parts for discontinued models for at least 10 years. The Peugeot 508 was produced by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture (now Stellantis) and was taken off the production line around 2019. Formally, the period for providing original spare parts has not yet expired, but in fact the obligations are not being fulfilled.
