In Russia, the cost of new cars has decreased

The average cost of a new passenger car and a light commercial machine in June amounted to 3.12 million rubles, calculated in the Association “Russian Automobile Deilers” (Road). This is seven percent less than a year ago. According to the head of Road Alexei Podchekoldin, the cars fell in price for the first time in a decade. Analysts explain the trend with a lull in the market: they try to lure buyers with profitable transactions.

At the end of last year, the average cost of a new passenger and light commercial car in Russia was noticeably higher – 3.35 million rubles. But despite the decline in prices, the situation in the country’s car market remains difficult, Znchekoldin notes.

For six months of 2025, the Russians bought less than 570 thousand new cars. This is 27 percent less than in the same period of 2024, calculated in the Road. The cost of cars sold in June is 1.8 trillion rubles, the fall was 31 percent.

Deilers note that reducing prices and providing discounts of importers and sellers force low sales. Due to weak demand, about half a million unexpressed cars accumulated in the warehouses of dealers, said Sergey Udalov, Executive Director of Avtostat agency.

The Road expects that the volume of the car market in 2025 will be about 1.3 million cars. Analysts are not waiting for sales restoration to the level of 2024 either in the current or next year. To grow up to 1.57 million cars, it will need at least two years, and it will be possible to get closer to the dopandemic indicators only to the end of the decade.
