In Russia, they want to restart the national crash tests RUNCAP

According to the head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev, “this idea is not forgotten”: on the contrary, it is especially relevant, since a lot of players have come to the Russian car market whose safety needs to be evaluated. Therefore, it is necessary to recreate the national standard RUNCAP, which was developed by the joint forces of “Autoreviation”, us, Madi and Rosstandart.

According to Shalaev, there are all the necessary methodological documents for the revival of the National Runcap crash test system. Only “Good Volya” remained in the system of not only domestic manufacturers, but also foreign ones who produce their products on Russian roads.

Runcap was going to launch five years ago: in 2019, they had already begun to prepare the first procedures and methods for conducting crash tests according to this methodology. However, the plans were violated by the pandemic, and then changes in the Russian car market due to the departure of Western stamps.

The testing methodology, suitable specifically for Russian conditions, was developed on the basis of an accident statistics. The need to create its own standard was also dictated by the features of machines for Russia, which were often different from the equipment from the “global”. In order to save them, for example, they equipped a smaller number of airbags and electronic systems.
