Road signs for unmanned cars will develop in Russia

Rosstandart is already working on the initiative to develop tablets warning about the movement of autonomous machines. However, on the roads they will appear only “when reaching a consensus of interested parties,” TASS reports with reference to the head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev.

Rosstandart is working on road signs warning about the use of unmanned vehicles. Despite the fact that autonomous tractors are already traveling to Russian highways, there are no such signs yet.

For their appearance, firstly, it is required to achieve the “consensus of all interested parties,” said Shalaev. The development of new signs is a long process in which the authorities, regulators, and motorists participate. Secondly, a frequent change in standards for road signs confuses drivers, increasing the risks of accidents.

The number of accidents with the participation of unmanned vehicles in Russia in Russia is named for the appearance of unmanned vehicles on the roads AvtoVAZ told when to equip the LADA autopilot

Rosstandart approved the new signs recently – in February 2025. Then, for example, the “Deaf” and combined signs appeared in the GOST.

In addition to signs, the department is being developed by GOST for the drones themselves. It will affect robotic machines, the autonomous systems of which do not provide the opportunity to a person to intervene in management. The first such standard is planned to be submitted until the end of 2025.
