Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Zaporozhye region Viktor Emelianenko announced plans to resume production of the legendary Soviet car “Zaporozhets” on the basis of existing production facilities. It is assumed that the revived car may receive a new name and a modern design, while maintaining the concept of affordable public transport.
The Zaporozhye region has the necessary infrastructure to resume production. On the territory of the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant there is a modern conveyor that allows the production of various types of cars – from cars to minibuses. This creates good preconditions for the successful implementation of the project.

Previously, there was a motor plant in the region where they manufactured engines for cars. However, with the closure of the enterprise, local manufacturers began to import imported components. Viktor Emelianenko noted that the restoration of Zaporozhets production could stimulate the revival of local industry and reduce dependence on imports.
People first started talking about reviving Zaporozhets back in 2023, when Dmitry Vorona, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, proposed reviving the legendary Soviet brand. It is assumed that the new Zaporozhets will receive the status of a modern people’s car and will be in high demand among Russian consumers.
