The Japanese brand brought the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R, or 12R for short, to the Tokyo Auto Show, the most powerful factory Miata ever. The roadster is suitable for both the track and regular roads, and is equipped with a two-liter naturally aspirated “four” with a capacity of 200 horsepower. This version will be sold only in Japan, and not everyone will be able to buy it – the plan is to produce only 200 copies.
Mazda’s Spirit Racing division played a significant role in the development of the powerful Miata. The R12 is powered by a two-liter naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G engine that produces 200 horsepower – 16 more than the regular MX-5.
The engine is paired with a non-alternative six-speed manual transmission. In addition to the power increase, the roadster received larger wheels, Brembo brake calipers and adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers.
The Drive/Mazda
Externally, the R12 can be recognized by its original Aero Gray body color with red hues and a body kit with a front splitter, side skirts and a spoiler. The wheels are forged Rays TE37, shod with Yokohama Advan AD09 tires. Mazda hasn’t shown the interior yet, but promises bucket seats with four-point seat belts and Alcantara trim.

This roadster will be sold exclusively in Japan. The cost is 7 million yen (4.6 million rubles), but if demand is very high, Mazda will organize a lottery. The brand does not yet plan to release a similar version with a hard top.
