Mazda responded to the development of a frame SUV

The chief designer of the BT-50 Pickup project, Aiji Kimoto, told Australian journalists that the Kodo corporate style is not compatible with SUVs, and now such a model is not included in the agenda. However, Mazda promises to study consumer demand, so in the future the passenger version of the BT-50 is still not excluded. Mazda does not prepare their own frame models without the participation of Isuzu.

Currently, Mazda releases the only frame model-the BT-50 pickup, which is unified with the ISUZU D-MAX and is available at the partner’s facilities. Rumors about the ramp of the Mazda SUV arose, since the Isuzu line has a passenger version of MU-X, and in theory it can also be “clone”.

Aiji Kimoto believes that the Kodo style is not compatible with a large SUV, although the design concept does not interfere with the release of the frame pickup under the Mazda brand. Perhaps the terms of the Agreement with ISUZU apply only to cargo modification. Mazda chief designer emphasized that the BT-50 will remain the only frame model in the portfolio, that is, there is no own developments in this segment.

Being a small Mazda company cannot finance fundamentally different projects, so affiliate projects are multiplying. For example, the Mazda6 successor is designed on the basis of Changan engineering solutions, and the contribution of the Japanese side is limited by the design. This does not prevent the electric car from becoming “global” and sold in Europe under the name EZ-6.
