Future models of the German brand will once again receive physical buttons for key functions. At the same time, there are no plans to abandon the huge displays that have become the hallmark of the brand, reports Carscoops.
As Mercedes-Benz top manager Matthias Geisen said in an interview, customers already told the company two years ago: “Guys, the idea is good, but it just doesn’t work for us.” We are talking about a widespread rejection of the usual buttons and the transfer of all functions to touch panels.
Future Mercedes-Benz models will include physical scroll wheels on the steering wheel, replacing the tactile touch-sensitive sliders. But this is just the beginning – there will be more traditional controls for other specific functions that drivers want to have direct access to.
As for giant displays, they are here to stay – Mercedes-Benz considers them an important element of personalization, allowing owners to customize the interface to suit themselves (for example, set a photo of children on the screensaver). According to a brand representative, screens are “hardware” that remains unchanged, but software and personalization become the main difference.
Thus, the Mercedes-Benz cabin awaits a reasonable compromise: huge screens for infotainment and customization, plus the return of convenient and responsive physical buttons for the most requested functions.
