Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation: driver’s licenses expired from February 2023 are invalid from February 1

The use of such licenses when driving a car now faces the driver with a fine of 5 to 15 thousand rubles.

As the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported to TASS, a temporary procedure was previously introduced according to which the validity of Russian national driver’s licenses that expired or expired in the period from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2025, was automatically extended for three years. However, this automatic renewal period ended in 2025.

Thus, all certificates that were subject to automatic renewal from February 1, 2023 must be replaced, since from that date they are considered invalid throughout Russia.

To obtain a new driver’s license to replace the old one, you do not need to take any exams. The applicant must provide a passport, a medical certificate confirming the absence of contraindications to driving, as well as an existing Russian national driver’s license.
