On the eve of International Women’s Day, men will traditionally go shopping for flowers, which will cause local traffic disruptions in the city, the Moscow Department of Transport warned.
According to forecasts by analysts from the Moscow Traffic Organization Center (TsODD), from March 6 to 8, the number of trips by private car in Moscow will increase by 2% compared to normal days. Moreover, crowds of motorists are expected near flower markets and shopping centers.
“Intense traffic is expected: in the area of the Riga market and its surroundings – on Mira Avenue, Novorizhskaya overpass, Bolshaya Pereyaslavskaya and Trifonovskaya streets in the area of the Kyiv metro station – on Bolshaya Dorogomilovskaya street, Berezhkovskaya embankment and Kievskaya street,” the Department of Transport reported.
An influx of motorists is also likely in Vodoprovodny and 2nd Krestovsky lanes and in the city center – on Kuznetsky Most, Pyatnitskaya, Bolshaya Nikitskaya, Varvarka, Petrovka, and Teatralny Proezd.
During long weekends, traffic on outbound routes may increase by 2-4 times compared to normal days, the data center warned. This is due to an increase in the number of trips outside the city.
