New Kia Sorento may catch fire: recall announced

South Korean auto giant Kia has announced a recall of 1,385 Sorento crossovers produced this year between April and October due to a defect in the fuel system that could cause the vehicle to catch fire in the event of a head-on collision. This information appeared today in the company’s official press release.

South Korean car manufacturer Kia is initiating a recall campaign affecting 1,385 units of the Sorento model. These vehicles were produced between early April and mid-October 2024. The reason for the recall was an identified factory flaw in the design of the fuel line. The company says that in the event of a frontal impact, there is a possibility that the front subframe of the crossover will shift in the rear direction. Such displacement may result in contact of the steering rack with the fuel line, which, in turn, can lead to damage.

If the fuel line is damaged, there is a risk of fuel leaking, which could potentially cause the vehicle to catch fire. In early January, owners of vehicles affected by the recall campaign will receive appropriate notifications. The manufacturer strongly recommends that owners contact official Kia dealers as soon as possible to carry out the necessary repairs, the press release notes.

One of the last recall campaigns in Russia took place at the end of December. It concerned 55 thousand recently produced Volkswagen and Skoda cars. The reason for the recall was a defect in the fuel system found on the Polo and Rapid models. The problem is that when the engine is idled for a long time in extremely low temperatures (below -35°C), an electrostatic charge can accumulate on the surface of the fuel lines.
