The brands agreed to share platforms to reduce costs. At the CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, some details about the first fruits of the collaboration were revealed: Honda may have its own version of the Nissan Patrol/Armada.

Honda spokesman Noriya Kaihara noted at CES that Nissan has a large class of vehicles that Honda does not, and admitted the possibility of a “swap” between new partners in the short term.

This could mean that Honda will have a model that will compete with the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer and Toyota Sequoia in the North American market. Moreover, a premium version of it may be released under the Acura brand to compete with the Cadillac Escalade and Lexus LX.

Kaihara also noted that Honda and Nissan will jointly develop new products. However, this will happen in the future, but for now, as the media believe, the matter will be limited to badge engineering.

Currently, the largest SUV in Honda’s lineup is the Pilot. Its length exceeds five meters, and the cabin can accommodate up to eight people.

The Nissan Patrol/Armada is much larger: it reaches 5.3 meters in length. The SUV is powered by a V6 3.5 turbo engine with 425 horsepower, and a naturally aspirated V6 3.8 with 316 horsepower is also available for the Middle Eastern Patrol.
