Opel made the fastest Corsa in the history of the model

Opel and the British Vauxhall are once again turning to the tradition of “charged” hatchbacks, but now with electricity. They announced the Corsa GSE, which they claim will accelerate to 60 mph faster than any other electric car in its class. Carscoops reports this.

The GSE shares the same platform, engine and chassis tuning as the Peugeot e-208 GTI (Stellantis). The single electric motor produces 276 hp in sport mode. and 345 Nm to the front axle through a self-locking differential. In normal mode, power drops to 228 hp.

In Sport mode, the Corsa GSE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds – faster than the Peugeot e-208 (5.7 sec) and its technically identical, but 47 kg heavier crossover sibling, the Mokka GSE (5.9 sec, curb weight 1550 kg). This is a very good result for a small front-wheel drive hatchback. The Corsa GSE leaves behind its main non-Stellantis competitors: the Alpine A290 and Mini Cooper JCW, which hit the 97 km/h mark in 6.4 and 5.9 seconds respectively.

The chassis received a stiffer lowered suspension and improved brakes with four-piston calipers. Opel says steering and pedal response are significantly better than a standard EV. The wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (215/40 R18) and three-spoke wheels reminiscent of the Corsa GSE of the 80s, which competed with the Peugeot 205 GTI almost 40 years ago.

Petrol versions of the Opel Corsa OPC (in the UK – VXR) with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. Depending on the generation, they accelerated to 100 km/h in 6.7-7.2 seconds. From the current Porsche model range, the 2025 Cayenne Coupe crossover with a 3.0 liter petrol engine (353 hp), all-wheel drive and automatic transmission accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
