Opel remembered the roots of Frontera and turned it into a real SUV

At one time, the name Frontera was bore a frame SUV based on Isuzu Mu. For many years they forgot about him until in 2024, Opel revived this name, but for a modest compact crossover with an electric power plant and front-wheel drive. Now, the company remembered the legacy of Frontera and presented a harsh conceptual SUV prepared for expeditions in difficult conditions.

The show-car was called Frontera Gravel, and the Blackfish and XS studio participated in its development, in addition to Opel. The body is painted in a matte beige, hood, roof and racks are black, and they contrast with bright orange inserts. The crossover was replaced by bumers with more massive, installed a winch, boxes on the rear racks and the Thule Canyon XT expeditionary trunk with an additional light block, another LED lamp is placed on the hood. The 16-inch wheels of Borbet Cwee with the “toothy” tires of BFGOODRICH is completed.

But in terms of technology there are no changes. The Frontera Gravel is driven by the only electric motor installed in front, which develops 156 horsepower. It is nourished by a battery with a capacity of 54 kilowatt hours. At the same time, the usual Frontera has not only an electric version, but also a mild hybrid with a gasoline “turbot” with a volume of 1.2 liters, supplemented by a 48-volt “appendage”. The drive in all versions is front.

So far, Opel Frontera Gravel is only a concept car, a public premiere of which will take place on May 30 in Austria at the XS Car Night Wörthersee festival. Whether the Frontera crossover will have serial off -road performance is still unknown.

Earlier this month, Opel shared the teaser of the “charged” Opel Mokka GSE. Such a crossover will reconfigure the suspension and, possibly, the power of the power plant is increased, but there are no details yet. According to rumors, Mokka GSE will share a technical filling with Abarth 600E.
