Both sixteen-valve engines will become more technologically advanced: the 1.6 engine will have a phase shifter on the intake, and the 1.8 engine will also have a phase shifter on the exhaust. The basic “gear” will develop 122 horsepower and about 160 Nm, and the flagship engine will produce 135 horsepower and ~180 Nm.
An AvtoVAZ representative confirmed power targets, but there are no details about torque. Now on Vesta the VAZ-21129 engine produces 106 horsepower and 148 Nm, and the VAZ-21179 develops 122 horsepower and 170 Nm. It will be possible to increase efficiency by switching to a Chinese 6-speed manual transmission.

According to unofficial data, the upgraded 1.8 engine will have to wait until 2026: the debut will take place on a crossover based on Vesta. The premiere date of the updated 1.6 has not been announced, but it can be assumed that it will be timed to coincide with the serial production of the Lada Iskra. Insiders believe that AvtoVAZ has a plan to localize the Chinese gearbox: the new 6-speed manual will be registered in Tolyatti this winter.
The plant also plans to produce an 8-valve 1.8 engine for the Lada Niva. It will develop 90 horsepower and 120 Nm of torque, and they will try to instill in the gasoline unit the characteristics of a diesel engine with solid traction at low speeds.
