In severe frosts, an abnormally high voltage is recorded in the electrical equipment system, reaching 15.2-15.3 volts. This value does not return to normal even after a long trip of 50-60 kilometers. Drivers describe this as “overcharging”, “electronic failure” or alternator failure.
The reason for this behavior is the complex energy supply system of a modern Porsche. Instead of a classic generator, an intelligent complex is used here, including an AGM battery, a “smart” generator, a current sensor (IBS) and a separate control unit. The voltage in the network changes dynamically, depending on the current state of the battery, and does not constantly remain at the usual 14.4 V.
The situation becomes critical when the voltage on a warm car with a fully charged battery exceeds 15.5 volts. This leads to errors in the generator control system and power supply. At the same time, many users report a malfunction of the oil level sensor. It is important that the problem manifests itself precisely in cold weather and, according to the owners, occurs even on technically sound cars.
At this time, there are no official recalls or service bulletins from the manufacturer. In most cases, dealerships explain this behavior as a standard “feature of the system” without offering a software or hardware solution.
