Russia sharply reduced the import of new cars

In the first half of 2025, the import of cars fell by 63 percent to 149.3 thousand units. This was reported by analysts of Avtostat agency. From January to June last year, for comparison, the country accepted 408.5 thousand new foreign cars. As then, now cars from China prevail in imports.

Since the beginning of 2025, approximately 77 percent of imports of new cars had been on the PRC. The second place was taken by Kyrgyzstan with a huge margin – its share is only eight percent.

Next are Belarus (4.7 percent) and South Korea (4.4 percent). The latter, by the way, in June increased the export of cars in monetary terms by 1.8 times, and in the first half of this year – 1.4 times. The fifth line of the lead exporters is occupied by Kazakhstan with a share of 2.2 percent. The share of other countries is less than one percent for each.

As for the brands, the Most of all was imported to Russia of Chinese Changan (15.8 percent). The second place was taken by Geely with a 10 percent share, the third-HAVAL with 6.9 percent, the fourth-Tank with 6.5 percent. The top five closes the only Chinese brand – Toyota (five percent), which cars arrive in the Russian Federation in parallel.

Of the models, the most imported Changan UNI-S/CS55 Plus, Geely Monjaro, Changan CS35 Plus, Haval M6 and Tank 300.

The volumes of supply of cars from China in January-June collapsed 2.3 times compared to the same period last year. For six months, the country exported cars with a total value of 2.7 billion dollars to Russia. Also, against the background of the fall in the car market, the import of Chinese trucks and spare parts was reduced.
