Russians buy most Chinese cars on credit

The main part – 73 percent – of branded cars from China are purchased with credit funds, as calculated in the financial marketplace Compare. About 70 percent of owners of Chinese cars in Russia are men aged 35 to 44 years. Almost a fifth of them live in Moscow (18 percent).

According to analysts’ calculations, the majority of comprehensive insurance policies for Chinese cars in 2024 were issued by residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Krasnodar Territory, as well as the Sverdlovsk and Samara regions. Among the designers, 61 percent are men, and women, respectively, are 39.

The most popular Chinese car brands are Chery, Haval, Geely, Omoda and Changan.

Sales of Chinese cars continue to grow, and comprehensive insurance policies are increasingly being issued for them, notes Compare. In 2024, the number of concluded contracts increased 12 times compared to last year.

In October, Chinese cars set another sales record in Russia. Almost 100 thousand units were sold in a month, and several brands reached their own highs – Haval, Geely, Jetour, GAC and Hongqi.
