The Shelby GT500KR convertible is up for auction at Mecum on July 25th. What exactly happened to him is not specified, but apparently he crashed in an accident and then stood motionless for decades. Carscoops reports this.
Regardless of what exactly happened to the car, the front part is badly damaged: the bumper is twisted, the radiator grille is broken, the front panel is dented. The rest of the body remains Wimbledon White with a black power soft top and blue stripes. The car sits on 15-inch wheels with Goodyear Eagle ST tires.
Also noticeable is extensive corrosion around the doors and side air intakes, rust on the lower body panels and an impressive spoiler.
Despite the unsatisfactory external condition, the interior of the car is well preserved. The interior is equipped with black vinyl seats, a three-spoke steering wheel and wood trim. Also included is a Philco radio. The odometer readings are 129.9 thousand kilometers.
There is no auction estimate, but the Shelby is being sold without a reserve price and will undoubtedly fetch much more than its original suggested retail price of around $4,600, which is roughly $45,000 in today’s money when adjusted for inflation. How much more is the big question, as restored examples can fetch six figures, and this is one of just 518 GT500KR convertibles in existence.
