Sales of new cars in Russia have increased with the onset of winter

 

According to Autostat, in the first week of December, Russians bought 30.1 thousand new cars – this is the best result in the last five weeks. Thus, in none of the November weeks did the car market manage to break through the mark of 30 thousand units – weekly sales were at the level of 25-29 thousand units. Lada models are the best selling in the country: almost every third car sold in early December was of this brand.

Lada completed the first week of December (from 2 to 8) with a result of 9.5 thousand cars sold. Next come the “Chinese”: Haval is in second place in terms of sales volume (3.7 thousand units), Chery is in third (3.4 thousand units), Geely is in fourth (2.3 thousand units), and Changan is in fifth ( 1.5 thousand pieces).

Autostat notes that sales of other brands over the past week did not exceed a thousand units. For example, Moskvich sold 772 cars and took sixth place; the top 10 also included Omoda (693 units), Jetour (650 units), Tank (564 units) and Jaecoo (544 units). At the same time, the last two brands supplanted the Chinese-Belarusian Belgee and BAIC from the top ten.

In November, Russians bought 121.9 thousand new cars – this is 29 percent lower than the October result and the worst figure in the last nine months. At the same time, in annual comparison, sales continue to show growth: last month, 11 percent more cars were sold than in November 2023. Two-thirds of the cars sold at the end of autumn were from five brands: Lada, Haval, Chery, Geely and Changan.

The volume of the Russian car market for 11 months of 2024 amounted to 1.447 million units – this corresponds to an increase of 54 percent compared to January-November 2023.
