Superior robots are equated with road users

The company has prepared a draft of a new experimental legal regime (EPR), which is sent for consideration by the Ministry of Economy: according to him, rovers will become full participants in the movement along with cars and pedestrians.

Robots will be able to move inside the buildings, along the roadsides or the right edge of the roadway, along the sidewalks, pedestrian and bike paths. They will follow the signals of traffic lights, and they will be able to stand on the sidewalks, in pedestrian areas and specially designated places.

The speed will be limited to 25 kilometers per hour, and when driving along the sidewalk – 10. The pedestrian crossing of the robot will be able to pass at a speed of not higher than six kilometers per hour. Dimensions are also regulated – a maximum of 110 centimeters in length and 80 in width. The mass should not exceed 120 kilograms without taking into account the cargo.

Each rover will have its own number and a QR code. If the device has an accident with suspicion of harm to life and health, the information will be transferred to emergency services, and the representative of Yandex will be ned to the place. The company will be responsible: if damage to health or property, it will be possible to count on the amount of up to half a million rubles. Fines for possible violations of traffic rules will also pay Yandex.

Thanks to the EPR, delivery with robots can be launched in another 20 regions, including St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Krasnodar and Primorsky Territory, Rostov and Moscow regions. In the future, rovers may also include in federal legislation, making amendments to the Law “On Road Safety” and the SDA.
